He is currently a Professor of Stroke Neurology and Consultant Neurologist at the National University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. He received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with honours in 2007. He completed his MRCP in 2011, neurology training in 2016 and a PhD in stroke medicine at the University of Nottingham, UK in 2019. His research interest is in stroke, particularly in intracerebral haemorrhage. He is the national coordinator for several international RCT including Tranexamic acid for ICH-2 & -3 (TICH-2 & TICH-3) and I-Catcher (ICH care bundle). He has published 91 journal articles to date, including in high impact journals, eg. Lancet, JAMA, Stroke. He leads the Malaysian Clinical Practice Guideline for management of ICH and also contributed to the UK/Ireland stroke guideline. He is an associate editor of Neurology Asia, with roles as guest editors and reviewers for many stroke/neurology journals. He was formerly a World Stroke Organisation future stroke leader 2022-2024 cohort. He was a visiting scholar to Beijing Tiantan Hospital, National Clinical Research Centre for Neurological Disease.
