
AT, AustriaDr. Eugen Trinka is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurology, Christian Doppler University Hospital at the Paracelsus Medical University, Salzburg, Austria. He is also Vice Director of the Christian Doppler University Hospital.
He qualified in Medicine at Vienna University in 1990. Dr Trinka pursued fellowship training at the Montreal Neurological Institute 1998/1999. From 2003 to 2010 he has been Associate Professor of Neurology at the Innsbruck Medical University and Head of the Epilepsy Service and EEG Laboratory at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Innsbruck. He was appointed as Chair of the Department of Neurology, Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg in 2010.
His research interests include clinical epileptology with a focus on epidemiology, prognosis, epilepsy surgery, drug development and status epilepticus, as well as clinical neurophysiology and functional neuroimaging. He received several scientific awards including the Herbert Reisner Preis for clinical epileptology, and the Humes Visting Professorship Award of the Cornell Weill University New York. Has authored more than 750 scientific publications and numerous book chapters. Dr Trinka´s has an H-factor is 101 and was awarded 2024 and 2025 as one of the most often cited researchers in Medicine (Clarivate).
Professor Trinka is Past President of the Austrian Society of Neurology, and the Austrian Society for Epilepsy, Austrian Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and the Society of Epilepsy Surgery Centres in Germany, Austria. In 2009 Dr. Trinka was treasurer of ILAE-EUROPE until 2017, when he was elected. as Chair of ILAE-EUROPE in 2017-2021, Strategic Advisor of the ILAE Executive Committee in 2021-2025 and currently ILAE Vice President. Dr. Trinka serves on Commission on Medical Therapies, Commission on Terminology, and numerous other ILAE Task Forces including the access to medicines Task Force and the Task Force on regulatory affairs. He conducted several pivotal trials as coordinating investigator and is co-director of the European Consortium for Epilepsy Trials.
