TH, ThailandProf.Dr.Banthit Chetsawang is a professor in neuroscience at Mahidol University. He has been a principal investigator at Research Center for Neuroscience and faculty member of the graduate program in neuroscience (an international program) for over 35 years. The main area of his research interests focuses on neurodegeneration, neuroprotection, and neurorestoration, particularly the death and survival signaling in neuronal cells, as well as the protective roles of melatonin in neurodegeneration. Moreover, the neurotoxic effects of drug abuse, such as methamphetamine, on neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, and cognitive impairment are also the aim of his study. His research is conducted in cellular models, animal models, and humans to study the mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration, ranging from the molecular level to neurobehavioral processes. His current research focuses on novel drug discovery and the development of therapeutic agents or chemical compounds that mitigate inflammation-induced brain dysfunction and neurodegeneration.
